Members of the RTI team also have applied their knowledge of organ preservation/perfusion systems, sensing systems, and Rametrix® organ viability profiling to help develop novel ex vivo methods to improve organ quality and even to ‘treat’ abnormalities (anatomical defects, benign tumors) in isolated, perfused organs, as demonstrated in several peer-reviewed publications (Bhonsel et al 2016; O’Brien et al 2018; Lake-Bakaar et al 2022; Rossi et al 2023). Such ‘treatments’, once again, could decrease the rate of discard of potentially usable organs.
